　　澳大利亚斯威本理工大学创校于1908 年，前身为技术学院， 1992 年全面改制为大学。目前有 12000 名学生就读于该大学及其研究所，另有 13000 名学生学习高等专科 (TAFE) 课程.学校的两大主要校区位于澳洲墨尔本市的 Hawthorn 和 Prahran 。主校区位于繁忙的小城 Hawthorn 近郊。 1997 年， Hawthorn 校区修建了新的学生宿舍，供学生居住。 Prahran 校区附近有许多咖啡馆、酒吧和商店。两校区皆紧临购物中心、银行、各式餐馆、超级市场，生活十分便利。 Lilydale 校区距墨尔本市中心以东 35 公里，是大学规模扩展和教育改革的中心，提供学生在校住宿。大学重视职业和技术培训，与业界有着紧密的联系，为学生提供行业基础学习，有的可以在相关行业进行带薪实习。在校学生约有一半学习计算机、商业计算、工程和理科专业，这些领域的学生人数在澳大利亚各大学中是多的。

　　大学致力于为专科文凭持有者提供深造机会。大学开设了多媒体学位课程，由设在 Prahran 校区的多媒体技术中心提供支持，市场、会计、旅游和多媒体专业还提供双项专科文凭。学生对课程和教学进行评估已成为制度。大学正在建立及发展其研究体系，以行业相关研究为主。
